''Dangerous Foods & Drugs That Are Harmful To Health''NAFDAC Reveals



The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC)  has warned that following food and drug items are harmful to human health and banned in the country,but  Nigerians still patronise such products.Such as Imported poultry foods like Chicken, Turkey and several others.This is the most common food item (poultry) that Nigerians consume despite several attempts to ban its importation in Nigeria,frozen chicken and turkey are still largely imported into the country. According to Nafdac " Although imported chickens and turkeys have become status symbol in Nigeria, the National Agency for Food And Drug Administration And Control (NAFDAC) has come out to strongly warned against the consumption of imported or smuggled frozen poultry frozen meat, even as it has said that imported poultry products, especially chicken and turkey have been discovered to be causative factor in non- communicable diseases (NCDs) and antibiotics resistance.Although NCDs are non-infectious but they are deadly. Health conditions under NCDs include cancer, kidney disease, and hypertension among others. NAFDAC Director General,Dr Paul Orhii, who gave the warning at media briefing in Lagos, urged Nigerians to avoid imported smuggled chickens and turkeys, because they have been found to contain substances that can predispose one to kidney, liver and lung diseases as well as certain types of cancers and drug resistance- bacterial infections.Heavy metals (which have been found to be present in imported or smuggled meat) may cause toxicity-related mutagenesis (mutation), carcinogenesis (cancer) and other severe health hazards. Others (result of heavy metals) are cardiovascular diseases, skin disorders, and neurotoxicity lung and nasal cancer in humans”. Other harmful products banned
by NAFDAC include DRY GIN(OGOGORO,PARAGA,SEPE),Aphrodisiacs,bromate made breads which contain 
Potassium bromate , a powerful oxidizing agent that ages flour and enhances its elasticity causing bread to rise and become white , fluffy and soft. 
According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, potassium bromate has been classified as a category 2b carcinogen and has been banned since 1992 by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and also by government agencies in Nigeria.
The National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has been in the forefront of the fight against the use of this chemical in bakeries and has been regulating bakers and millers in Nigeria.Other harmful products include 
Paracetamol,  Ninja-X, a product promoted and sold for sexual enhancement online and in retail stores. Ninja-X has been confirmed to contain Sildenafil and Thiosildenafil. GENTAMYCIN 280mg,NIMSULIDE TABLETS,UNREGISTERED SATCHET WATERS and UNREGISTERED HERBAL DRINKS
